Chinese smartphone maker Gionee launches the new range of smartphones on April 26. According to industry sources, the price of these smartphones is expected to be Rs 9,000 to Rs 15,000 and ‘full view display’ will be their main feature.
Earlier this year, media reports had said that Gionee was going to stop its business in India due to financial problems. Knowledgeable sources IANS told that the company is not turning off the Indian business, but instead it is turning into a new model.
David Chang, global sales director of Gionee India, told that the company will remain here. At the same time, he also denied reports of financial problems run by Chinese media. Chang said, “We are very excited about the Indian market and want to tell all Gionee lovers that we will be in the Indian market.”
According to Counterpoint Research, the company has 2.2 percent stake in the Indian smartphone market in 2017.
Gionee started operations in the Indian market in 2012. The company claims that it has a presence in more than 42,000 stores in India and has 600 exclusive service centers. Gionee claims that there are 1.25 million subscribers in the country.
The company is also focusing on sports sponsorships aggressively. Earlier, Chinese smartphone companies Vivo and Oppo have succeeded in getting the sponsorship of the Indian cricket team. Vivo is also the chief sponsor of IPL 2018.
