Mahindra & Mahindra is the only Indian automaker to sell electric cars. Mahindra is already selling electric cars named e2oPlus and eVerito, and now the company is also getting an electronic version of its popular SUV cars. According to media reports, Mahindra Electric is now working on the electric version of Scorpio and XUV500. To develop an electric vehicle, Mahindra is planning to invest 300 crore to 400 crore rupees.
It is believed that the cost of electric versions of Scorpio and XUV 500 will be higher than their diesel variants. However, the company did not disclose the timelines for how long the electric versions of these cars would come. Scorpio with an electronic variant and the price of XUV500 can be Rs 12 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, respectively.
Speaking of the engine, both the Scorpio and the XUV500 have a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Scorpio engine generates 120bhp power and the XUV500 engine generates 140bhp power. Scorpio is given a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the XUV500 is given a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox. Mahindra is also working on Facelift Scorpio and XUV500, which can be launched in the Indian market in 2018.
