Suzuki and Toyota have set up a joint venture under which the country’s leading passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited will launch its first electric car in the Indian market in 2020.
Chairman of the Company RC Bhargava said this in an interaction with the reporters in the annual meeting. He said that there is a complete possibility that the company’s first electric car in 2020 will be seen in the Indian market.
Both companies will work further on the electric car and by 2020 it will be carrying cars on the roads. He said that it will be beneficial for the joint venture Maruti with Toyota. Both companies have the technology of electric cars.
He said that this car will be expensive at the beginning, but as soon as the company starts producing them at the domestic level and prices will start coming down. The battery for the electric car will be produced at the Maruti plant located in Gujarat.
Online automobile marketplace has offered partnerships with companies like Mahindra, Hero Electric, and YoBike for offering electric vehicles on their platform.
The company said in a statement that the price of electric two-wheelers being offered on its platform ranged from Rs 20,000 to Rs 42,400. Prices of electric cars range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh.
