Apple plans to make the iPhone 12 in India. This new plan to make the phone will reportedly be launched by Apple partner Wistron from the middle of next year. This company is already assembling some of its current iPhone models in the country. These include the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR as well as the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. Wistron started assembling iPhone models in the country in May 2017.
According to Business Standard’s report, the upcoming iPhone 12 will be the seventh iPhone model to be made in India. Let us know that the iPhone 12 is yet to be formally announced by Apple. Apple has so far localized five iPhone models in the country, the latest being the iPhone 11, which started making in India in July under Make in India. Wistron reportedly plans to start manufacturing iPhone SE (2020) in the country by the end of this year.
The Business Standard report also says that Wistron plans to hire about 10,000 employees in a phased manner to expand its local construction process. However, at present, there are around 1,000 employees working in this facility. Apart from this, the contract manufacturer has also planned to invest Rs 2,900 crore to scale up operations.
Apple is believed to be delaying the launch of the iPhone 12 series. It is reported that the company will launch the new Apple Watch and the new iPad model with the new iPhone in October. The company confirmed the delay in launch at the end of last month.
